Hilton Head Tennis
With 500 tennis courts island-wide and several racquet clubs that are rated among Tennis Magazine’s top 50, most players dream of venues like Hilton Head Island. The island is home to Van der Meer Tennis University, which is renowned for teaching professionals as well as amateurs. Billy Jean King said, “Dennis Van der Meer is the number one tennis teacher. He has influenced the entire teaching world with his innovative techniques.” Among the attendees who succeeded on the Grand Slam circuit is Amanda Kutzer. Van der Meer has two tennis centers on the south end of Hilton Head Island … one in Forest Beach and one in Shipyard Plantation, which is the international headquarters for the Professional Tennis Registry.
Add a year-round mild climate to those world-class facilities and all three Grand Slam playing surfaces … what more could a tennis aficionado want? How about a racquet club in the Harbour Town area of Sea Pines that features tennis pro Stan Smith? Or another racquet club at the South Beach Marina, also in Sea Pines?
Our weekly rates include one hour of tennis per day per property. Courtside and Springwood condominiums have tennis memberships at Van der Meer. Other Forest Beach vacationers may use this facility, pay for their tennis, and present receipts to our office where they will be reimbursed for one hour of tennis per day per property. Shipyard guests may play at Van der Meer Tennis Center next to the Crowne Plaza Hotel. Sea Pines guests may play the Harbour Town or South Beach Racquet Clubs. The same reimbursement policy applies. Tennis facilities require advanced reservations for court time.
Instead of reimbursement for one hour of tennis per day, avid tennis players may prefer properties with on-site tennis courts for the private use of owners and their guests. Those managed by Seashore Vacations are located in: Forest Beach Villas, Inland Harbour, Lighthouse Tennis, Racquet Club, Evian, Townhouse Tennis, Waterford …
South Forest Beach has public tennis courts located on Cordillo Parkway. A few miles north, the Island Recreation Center manages several public courts that are lighted for night play. Hilton Head High School and Hilton Head Middle School make courts available on weekends and in the evening when school is in session and anytime during the summer. They operate on a first-come, first-served (no pun intended) basis and there is no charge for the use of these courts.
